This past Friday afternoon a Texas Rangers minor league prospect by the name of Daniel Gutierrez, P, was suspended for 50 games due to violating the Minor League drug policy. Gutierrez tested positive for amphetamine.

Daniel Gutierrez tested positive for amphetamine? Since when is amphetamine a Performance enhancing drug? The team announced Late Friday afternoon of the suspension and of course had a statement from Gutierrez which read,
“I sincerely apologize to the Texas Rangers organization, Major League Baseball, and to my family for my failure to comply with the Minor League Drug Policy by failing to apply for and obtain a TUE, I understand that it was my responsibility to obtain a TUE even though the drug was prescribed by a doctor, and that I have let down myself and many others with my failure to do so. I greatly appreciate the support of the Texas Rangers front office and I am determined to serve as a better role model in the future.” Why must players say all of that? We have all heard the story from much larger names. Same ole same ole crap. Its pointless. Everyone should just say to this guy and others who test positive, “Just shut up and don’t say anything”, just tell people “You know what I am going to say, so I don’t need to say anything at all.” People are just so tired of hearing the same crap over and over. I think people are tired of hearing this falseness in players. I would much rather hear them say “Yeah I took this and that I took it to help me swing a bat better, throw a ball faster” Or WHATEVER!!! Anything but the lies they all seem to say, just mixing a few words around.

Enough is enough. Baseball players, football players, basketball players whomever plays sports as a profession will use PED’s! Why are we trying to stop this all the time. The sports leagues catch maybe 10% of all players who use these things and just makes the testing dollars a waste. If Gutierrez was on the Texas Rangers Major League 40 man roster, under the league rules he would have only received a warning. Its amazing to see all these players test positive now a days anyway for anything. You would think that they would have found another guy in the locker room who knew how to beat the testing. If you get caught in today testing, your just dumb.

Back to Gutierrez:

“We’re disappointed,” Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. “While it appears this may have been the result of taking a legal drug, it demonstrates poor judgement that Daniel didn’t let us know he needed a TUE, and that violates MLB’s program. It’s a setback, as he appeared ready for a strong year beginning in Frisco’s rotation. I am sure with hard work, that’s still possible.”

Daniel Gutierrez will spend his suspension in Surprise, Arizona, and he will be allowed to take part in all activities during spring training. He will report to minor league spring training camp for spring workouts in March.

Former Chicago White Sox great first basemen Frank Thomas has called a news conference for 11 a.m. Friday at at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, to announce his retirement sources say.

The Chicago White Sox are expected to announce after the retirement announcement, that the “Big Hurt’s” No. 35 jersey will be retired this summer. One source speculated the ceremony could occur around Aug. 2, which is the 20-year anniversary of when Frank Thomas was brought to the team as a rookie.

MLB.com was first to report that Frank Thomas would retire. Thomas, who played for the Chicago White Sox for 15 seasons from 1990 – 2005, told MLB.com he spent last winter, as well as much of this offseason, thinking about his future and waiting for offers that never surfaced. Thomas is a five-time All-Star, has hit 500 plus home runs nearly 2500 RBI, 2 MVP awards and has won a world series, is thought to be a strong contender for the Baseball Hall of Fame when he becomes eligible in 2014.

Thomas, arguably the greatest player in Chicago White Sox history over such great players as Carlton Fisk, Luis Aparicio, Robin Ventura and Harold Baines holds numerous team records, including all-time home run and RBI marks.

The Big Hurt Frank Thomas, who turns 42 on May 27, has pursued a career in broadcasting since failing to hook on with a team after 2008. Everyone will vote for Thomas because he is and was an all around nice guy.He was truly a great player and has never been linked to steroid use. During an era wheee seemingly every other big name player was on something. He’ll get in the Hall Of Fame on the first year of eligibility.

The fantastic owner of the Dallas Mavericks Mark Cuban, has apparently talked to, or trying to help potential investors, about becoming a minority owner of the Dallas Stars. The eccentric Mavericks owner apparently told ESPN radio in Dallas of his plans on Wednesday afternoon.

Cuban was quoted as saying” “I’m not looking to outright buy the team, I have talked to somebody who is interested in buying the team and I told them I would try to help them get a deal done. From my end, I like hockey, I’m a fan, but I’m not a hockey guy. I’m not going to lie and pretend I can come in and bring the energy that I try to bring to the Mavs”. Cuban claims he was introduced to the interested buyer by Stars center Mike Modano. Modano is getting involved with this sale, in my opinion, because he probably will have some type of executive role with the Stars when he retires soon, and he doesn’t wish to deal with Tom Hicks any longer as and owner or as a professional. The current Stars owner Tom Hicks has hired a firm to find investors for the struggling club. Hicks Sports Group, who owns the Stars and 50 percent of American Airlines Center, is willing to sell a majority stake in the club in order to help pay down its debts. Boy he really is a bad owner! Hicks said Monday that he lent $85 million of his own money to HSG in a two-year period that ended on March 31, 2009, when the company defaulted on $525 million in loans. I tell you something about Tom Hicks, He has to be one of the dumbest team owners in all of the history of sports! He just is such a moron.

Tom Hicks and his company, Hicks Sports Group, hope to sell the team by the end of summer. The process has just started and hopes that it will move quickly. But those are only hopes.

Mark Cuban has wanted to own another sports team, whether its in Baseball, hockey or football whatever. Mark Cuban tried this past year to place a bid for the MLB Chicago Cubs. MLB declined his bid quick! Really quick. I don’t know why Bud Selig, MLB Commissioner, wouldn’t want Mark Cuban in MLB. He has done so much for the Mavericks, and basically made the Mavericks matter again. People started noticing the Dallas Mavericks a lot when Cuban took over as owner of the Mavericks. Even ESPN started noticing the Dallas Mavericks. The way Mark Cuban handles the media and the team he owns is a breath of fresh air. He spends money, in Dallas, he is flamboyant, hes shows up the commissioner of the NBA David Stern very well. He just has a love for what he does. He may just become a minority owner of the Dallas Stars however, he will help bring some much needed life back into the world of professional Hockey.
He just wont sit around and not have an active role with the team, he will get involved, become a advocate of hockey, in the media where its much needed.

Nothing but good can come from the great Mark Cuban owning the Dallas Stars.

People in and around the world of sports know, that unfortunately the Super Bowl marks the end of another year of remarkable football in the NFL. So now everyone must focus on the start of another year of Major League Baseball, RANGERS BASEBALL more specifically!!! The Texas Rangers last year ended there season in second place in the west with a record of (87-75, the Rangers were in first place most of the year) behind the becoming very much hated Angels of California (97-65). Usually they’re from Los Angeles, then Anaheim, then Los Angeles again, Oxnard, Southern California or where ever the teams decides to be from that game day. The team may have home issues in a name for their team, but make no mistake they do not have issues on the field at home or away. The Angels have been the dominating force in a seemingly mediocre AL West division for the past several years now. The Angels even won the world series back in 2002. The Great Rangers of Texas however, have only won three division titles in there entire history, 96,98,99. But they have always had bats in the lineup! No pitching just bats. Now last year they came around a whole lot as a team. Batting .260 as team and hitting a staggering 224 Home runs. Pitching was much improved as well having a team E.R.A. of 4.38 and K/9 innings of nearly 6.5. Now not the best numbers i know, however for the rangers pitching staff it is phenomenal! Nolan Ryan and Mike Maddux have turned this seemingly bad staff and “bad always” pitching team into something that will shine even brighter in 2010. Now the Texas Rangers have been voted once again with the best farm system in the league for the third straight year. That means overall they have the best Pitching prospects as well. SP Tanner Scheppers whom the Rangers drafted last year in 2009 is already being invited to spring training In Surprise Arizona, to try and win a spot on the team. Hes mainly the big name the Texas Rangers will be keeping an eye on this spring. Along with other young talents like RP Guillermo Moscoso, SP/RP Neftali Feliz who destroyed just about every batter he faced last year with the team, RP Darren O’Day, SP Scott Feldman who also was tremendous winning an astounding 18 games last year for the club and easily the teams ACE now. The list of pitching talents the Texas Rangers have is simply tremendous. Did I mention other names like Sp Derek Holland, SP Matt Harrison? Or did I mention SP Tommy Hunter? The Texas Rangers in a lot of experts eyes have the talent to go very far into the playoffs, let alone win the AL West division. I spoke briefly about the bats the rangers have always had. Well they still have some of those as well. 2B Ian Kinsler was by far the best offensive player for the Texas Rangers last year, batting a respectable .277 with 31 HR as well as 86 RBI and 31 stolen bases. He will become an even greater offensive weapon this year for the club. Other bats as we already know of course 3B Michael Young, who was again fantastic even after moving to yet another position in the infield this past year batting an astounding .322 22HR and 68 RBI. He simply knows how to get on base. RF Nelson Cruz became a piece of the driving force that is the Texas Rangers offense with 33 HR and 76 RBI, no doubt he will increase that this year by far. Oh year theirs more than those three, 3B/DH Hank Blalock, newly acquired RF/DH Vladimir Guerrero who has always played fantastic at Rangers ballpark, 1B Chris Davis and the young amazing offensive master of everything SS Elvis Andrus.
